FSA Plans to Consolidate County Offices

Public hearings have been announced to review the Farm Service Agency's plan to restructure six county offices.

John Stevenson, State Executive Director of the Ohio Farm Service Agency, recently announced FSA will hold public meetings in six counties to solicit public comment regarding the Ohio FSA proposed office restructuring plan in which Perry, Erie, Carroll, Warren, Lorain and Montgomery county offices are being considered for closure.

FSA will conduct informational meetings in each of the six counties to review why the office was chosen for consolidation, how the consolidation will happen, and options for the farmers and producers in the county. Members of the Ohio FSA State Committee and State Office staff will attend each public meeting and hear comments from the public on the proposed consolidations.

Ohio FSA is striving to maintain an optimum network of FSA facilities, staffing, training, and technology with a declining budget and shrinking staff. When the review of FSA county offices began in 2006, there were 72 Ohio FSA county offices with 7 of those being shared management offices. The restructuring plan will eliminate shared-management resulting in increased efficiencies and offices that are more fully staffed.

The public is invited to attend the following county office consolidation meetings. All meetings will begin at 1:00pm and conclude at 3:00pm.

Perry County, August 23, 2007, at the American Legion Post 58, 107 East Gay Street, Somerset, Ohio;

Erie County, August 24, 2007, at the Erie County Service Building, in the 3rd Floor Meeting Room, at 247 Columbus Avenue in Sandusky, Ohio;

Carroll County, August 27, 2007, at the Carrollton Friendship Center, 100 Kensington Road, Carrollton, Ohio;

Warren County, August 30, 2007, at the Warren County Fairgrounds in building A, 665 N Broadway, Lebanon, Ohio. Everyone is to enter through the main gate.

Lorain County, August 31, 2007, at the Lorain County Fairgrounds, Fair Hall Building #19, 23000 Fairgrounds Road, Wellington, Ohio; and

Montgomery County, September 4, 2007, at the Leiber Center, Golden Gate Park, Upper Lewisburg-Salem Road, Brookville, Ohio.
