CNMP Providers Course Set for Nov. 13-15

Registration forms due by Oct. 23.

Farm consultants, technical service providers, professional engineers and agency staff members interested in learning about or assisting producers in developing and implementing comprehensive nutrient management plans can attend a CNMP providers course Nov. 13-15 in Bluffton, Ohio.

The three-day course, sponsored by the Michigan State University, Ohio State and Purdue Extension programs, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day at The Centre at Bluffton.

"It has become increasingly important for all farms to have effective CNMPs to make better use of land management and farming practices that protect the surrounding environment," say Natalie Rector, MSUE nutrient management educator.

Course participants can learn how to become certified CNMP providers, as well as understand the components, tools and resources available to develop effective CNMPs. Participants can also obtain Level II access to USDA electronic information.

This course, which is approved by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, will also meet the initial training requirements for "CNMP Development - Total Plan" in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Additional training and/or Web-based classes will be necessary for those who pursue full CNMP certification.

Guest speakers will include specialists from MSU Extension, Ohio State Extension and the USDA NRCS in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. This team of experts will provide practical information on all CNMP components, including environmental concerns and regulations for manure management; conservation practices for the land application of manure; the selection and implementation of land treatment practices; farmstead evaluation, inspection, operations, maintenance and training; and emergency action planning.

The $375 course fee includes instruction, resource materials and lunches for all three days if registration forms are postmarked no later than Oct. 23. Registration after this date will be $450. On-site registration will not be available.
