Ohio Ethanol Tour begins

The state received funding to install about 200 pumps for higher ethanol blends.

The Ohio Ethanol Tour has kicked off. The road trip is sponsored by the Ohio Corn Marketing Program and is designed to promote the expanded availability of E85 at stations throughout the state through USDA’s grant program.

Drivers of flex-fuel vehicles in Ohio now have more options in where to fill up with E85 — a fuel that is 85% ethanol. The expanded availability of E85 in the state is due to a $3.4 million USDA grant for biofuels infrastructure, which provided funding to install about 200 pumps for higher ethanol-blended fuels throughout the state. The grant was awarded to the Ohio Department of Agriculture and Ohio Corn Marketing Program.

The grant program created the opportunity for fuel retailers to expand the reach of ethanol in Ohio through financial support for the purchase and installation of dispensing equipment that is compatible with ethanol-blended fuels.

“Ohio motorists are driving nearly 1 million flex-fuel vehicles today, and they are seeking access to efficient and clean-burning ethanol,” says Tadd Nicholson, executive director of the Ohio Corn Marketing Program. “As Ohio farmers continue to invest significant corn checkoff dollars to improving ethanol availability, we are pleased to see public demand for more cost-effective, environment-friendly ethanol continue to grow.”

The Ohio Corn Marketing Program and the Ohio Department of Agriculture are partnering with gas stations and convenience stores that sell ethanol blends to bring attention to the increased availability of cleaner-burning, higher-octane ethanol fuel.

“We believe that the expanded availability of ethanol-blended fuels throughout the state is a win-win for our corn farmers, our fuel station owners and operators, and for all Ohioans,” says ODA Director David T. Daniels.
